Fujifilm has added a new lens to its range of compatible lenses for the GFX Series medium format mirrorless cameras – the Fujinon GF 50mm f/3.5 R LM WR. The new GF lens is the smallest and lightest medium format lens from Fujifilm.
Weighing only 335g (11.82oz), the new lens is incredibly compact with a 40mm full-frame equivalent focal length and f/3.5 maximum aperture. The Fujinon GF 50mm f/3.5 R first appeared on the company’s roadmap late last year.
Fujifilm says that its latest lens addition can handle the resolution of even a 100MP camera like the GFX 100 with ease. The GF series of lenses are Fujifilm’s highest quality lenses and the GF 50mm f/3.5 is the 10th lens in the lineup.
The company’s target for the new compact lens is street photographers and filmmakers using its GFX 50R. Fujifilm says that the Fujinon GF 50mm f/3.5 R LM WR is fit for rugged environments, unpredictable weather, as well as cold temperatures, and it’s “an ideal choice for street and landscape photography.”
Fujifilm has provided a few sample images that were shot with the new GF 50mm f/3.5 R LM WR. You can view them on the product specifications page for the company’s smallest and lightest GF lens. All three sample photos were shot using the Provia film simulation on the Fujifilm GFX 50R.
Features of the Fujinon GF 50mm f/3.5 R LM WR

The Fujinon GF 50mm f/3.5 R LM WR features an optical construction of nine elements in six groups which includes an aspherical element to help minimize barrel distortion and spherical aberration.
The new lens design uses minimal “focus breathing” to produce sharp images with rich tones. When mounted on the Fujifilm GFX 100, it’s low breathing combines with the GFX 100’s 4K video capability to produce impressive video footage as well.
Furthermore, the compact GF 50mm f/3.5 features a fast, responsive and quiet linear autofocus motor. Its 10-point weather sealing makes the lens resistant to moisture, dust, and temperatures of up to -10°C (14°F).
This new 50mm compact lightweight autofocus lens can also be used on the latest GFX cameras from Fujifilm. With the release of this new 50mm lens, the company restated that all its GF lenses are more than capable of executing increasingly high resolution if and when it becomes necessary.
Fujinon GF 50mm f/3.5 R LM WR Specifications
Weighing only 335g (11.82oz), the GF 50mm f/3.5 R LM WR is only 48mm (1.9″) long and 84mm in diameter. Its light weight and small size make it the perfect optic for both street and travel photography. When mounted on Fujifilm’s GFX 50R, the result is a mobile medium format optic machine weighing only 1.11kg and perfect for shooting on the go.

This lens has an all-metal barrel with a metal mount with a minimum focusing distance of 55cm (21.6″). When mounted on Fujifilm’s medium format cameras, the resulting effective focal length of 40mm gives a standard field of view suitable for street photography and general-purpose imaging.
It features a nine-blade aperture diaphragm and a 35mm equivalent focal length of 40mm. The nine aperture blades, when combined with the GFX’ crop factor, produces an f/2.8 effective depth of field which enables the lens to deliver a soft bokeh suitable for portraiture.
