Nikon earlier announced that it is in the process of developing a super fast lens, the NIKKOR Z 58mm f/0.95 S Noct. The camera giant now lists the NIKKOR Z 58mm f/0.95 S Noct on the product page on its website as “coming soon.” Nikon also says that the upcoming lens is going to be the fastest NIKKOR lens ever. The lens is currently under development and will be available in 2019.
The NIKKOR Z S Noct is a special kind of manual focus lens for the mirrorless Z series. Its maximum aperture of f/0.95 is the largest of any NIKKOR lens in Nikon history. According to Nikon, it is able to develop the new Noct lens technology because of innovations of the new Z mount. The company adds that the new NIKKOR Z Noct lens will make possible interesting new capabilities for the Z series mirrorless system.
The design of the new NIKKOR Z S Noct lens is a good representation of Nikon’s commitment to the pursuit of an ultimate optical performance for cameras in the mirrorless category. This is why the NIKKOR Z Noct is placed at the forefront of the S-Line. There will most likely be more powerful Noct lenses from Nikon in the future.
The NIKKOR Z 58 mm f/0.95 S Noct lens
The upcoming NIKKOR Z 58mm f/0.95 S Noct lens is expected to have a high precision feel, and make possible vast depth-of-field control and an elaborate bokeh for portraiture. The lens will have great operability, superb reproduction of point-image and great performance with low-light for taking night pictures and astrophotography.
The upcoming NIKKOR Z 58mm f/0.95 S Noct is more of a proof of concept for the camera brand. Nikon hopes to show the amazing capabilities of the Z mount in terms of image quality and speed. The new NIKKOR Z Noct lens will come with a combination of two anti-reflection coatings to minimize multi-directional ghosting and flare. One of the coatings is the new ARNEO Coat that will take care of vertical incidental light. The second coating is the Nano Crystal Coat which will handle diagonal incidental light.
Nikon made known that it hopes to outperform the Zeiss Otus with the new Nikkor Z Noct 58mm f/0.95 lens. Some people are already disappointed in Nikon’s choice of manual focus instead of auto-focus for the new Noct lens. The company explains that it is very hard to move large and heavy glass elements with an auto-focus motor. Plus it will be very expensive to do so.
