Canon is one of the biggest names in the photography world and thinking outside the box is expected from a company of their caliber. We expect them to dictate and set new trends that will make it easier for photographers to make wonderful photos. The most recent news involving Canon is just a rumor at this point, but chances are high we’re going to see 100MP Canon EOS R with IBIS.
What’s Going On?
Multiple sources have reported that news about the upcoming EOS R camera despite previous reports that the IBIS system isn’t ready for the release of this type of camera at the moment. That being said, different prototypes were developed during the testing phase, and it’s safe to expect IBIS to appear on Canon’s devices sooner rather than later.
Adding more fuel to the fire, reports also state that Canon discarded the development of their EOS 5DS/R follow-up in order to focus on the next endeavors. Their goal is to make sure the next high megapixel camera is created specifically for the EOS R system. Rumors are getting louder, and it’s highly likely they’re going to turn out to be true, but we can’t expect the latest camera to be available this year. The camera will probably be released in 2020.
This isn’t the first rumor surrounding Canon. For example, you’ve probably come across reports suggesting that the replacement for 50.6MP EOS 5DS DSLR will be a mirrorless 75MP device, but the number could go as high as 100MP.
Although it’ll take a few months until we know for sure whether the rumors are true or false one thing is certain – Canon would score a huge goal with IBIS due to the fact that photographers who love working with high megapixels want to protect them from any sort of camera shake in order to preserve and enhance quality of their work.
What Does IBIS Stand For?
The term IBIS stands for In-Body Image Stabilization, and it refers to a system whose primary objective is to decrease the adverse effects of camera shake. IBIS functions by moving the sensor in a manner that counteracts the camera motion. The shift of sensor is achieved through actuators that, basically, respond or react to feedback from gyroscopes that detect movement. It’s important to mention that IBIS works with all lenses that are attached to the camera, but Canon has been criticized lately due to lack of this feature. It looks like they’ll finally dip their toes into the water and try it out.
According to some reports Canon is working on their EOS R with IBIS camera that might be introduced in 2020. While the news is just a rumor at the point it won’t be surprised if we see it happen as one of the most common issues the company faced is the lack of IBIS in their cameras.
