Canon EOS M200 DEALS

In recent years, Canon has produced a myriad of EOS M series cameras. These mirrorless cameras are generally split into two tiers – the high-end tier including the EOS M6, and the mid-range tier including the Canon EOS M200.

In this review, we look at the M200 and discuss how it fits in-between the EOS M50 and M100. We look at the camera features, its design, and how it functions. Furthermore, we look at how it compares to other similar devices:

Main Features

This fantastic device has a host of features and its basic specifications match up to other Canon devices. We have listed some basic specifications below:

  • Size: 108 x 67 x 35 mm
  • Weight: 299g (body only)
  • Sensor: 24.1MP CMOS Sensor
  • Image Processor: DIGIC 8
  • Max FPS: 7fps
  • Max Video Resolution:  4K UHD
  • Connectivity: WiFi / Bluetooth
  • Touchscreen: Yes

As you can see, the DIGIC 8 processor means that the Canon EOS M200 benefits from the latest technology the manufacturer has to offer. Furthermore, the RAW image quality and autofocus mean that you can take professional photos with minimal effort.

This camera is a great option for beginners who want to step up to eventually use a full-frame DSLR camera. It provides brilliant quality, with the style and design of a point and shoot camera.

However, the addition of the EF-M lens mount means that if you do want to utilize different lenses, you can do so! For example, you could purchase the specialist EF-M 55-200mm if you wanted an enhanced zoom. This combination of flexibility, and quality, make the Canon EOS M200 a solid choice for beginners.

Design

The Canon EOS M200 features all the hallmark design features you would expect from M-series devices. It looks and feels fantastic. Furthermore, it is a pleasure to use and is highly functional.

The exterior benefits from the textured outer casing which allows users to grip the device firmly. Moreover, the button layout is standard and features the top program mode dial and the back settings pad.

One potential drawback is a lack of a viewfinder – traditional DSLR users may find this irritating. There is an ultra-sharp LCD touchscreen, however, that allows users to easily focus and control camera settings.

At just 108 x 67 x 35mm, and weighing just 299g, this camera body is highly portable. Even when equipped with a lens like the EF-M 15-45mm, it is still easy to carry and won’t weigh you down. Overall, the Canon EOS M200 has an excellent design.

Usability

To complement the fantastic design, the Canon EOS M200 is also highly usable. We have listed some of the main usability features below:

  • Logically placed dial and buttons
  • Easy-to-use LCD screen
  • Rotatable LCD screen for vlogging
  • Simple lens mount system for quick lens changes

Canon clearly understands the importance of usability and this shows in all of their EOS M mirrorless cameras. The rotatable screen provides flexibility and is a great feature for those who want to use the M200 for vlogging. Moreover, the dial and buttons allow users to quickly switch between program modes or change camera settings like exposure and aperture.

Canon EOS M200 vs. Canon EOS M50

So how does the Canon EOS M200 compare to a similar device in the Canon mirrorless range? A great comparison is the EOS M50. This is a device in the same category but has several differences. In terms of design, both cameras are ergonomic and aesthetic. They both feature tactile grips and have a high-quality LCD screen.

One of the main differences is the viewfinder. The EOS M50 features an electronic viewfinder that gives the camera a true DSLR feel. This EFV is not present on the EOS M200 – you must focus using the LCD screen and control every aspect of the cameras function using this screen. Some people are fine with this, but others only like to use an EFV – this comes down to personal preference.

In terms of image quality, both devices feature the newer DIGIC 8 processor and the 24.1MP CMOS sensor – this means that there is little difference in image quality. The main difference is the shape and style of the camera – the EOS M50 operates more like a traditional DSLR device with a molded handgrip and EFV. The M200 is a typical mirrorless camera the is more akin to a point and shoot device. We have created a basic comparison table below:

The Canon EOS M200 is a brilliant device that offers portability, excellent image quality, and an EF-M mount to utilize other Canon lenses. The DIGIC 8 processor and 24.1MP CMOS sensor ensure that images are sharp with minimal distortion.

The autofocus system with 143 potential focusing points means you can focus quickly on both stationary and moving objects. In addition to the above, the connectivity of this device means you can download photos to external devices and share them easily on social media.

If you are looking for a versatile mirrorless camera with a host of features, the Canon EOS M200 is a brilliant option. It is a great device to use for travel photography, street photography, and vlogging. It also comes in several stylish colors and has a brilliant, ergonomic design.
